The key to this whole game is: Spaces and punctuation count. Don't count the first episode, then:
fifth place, first, ninth, first, fifth, seventh, fourth, first, second, seventh, fifth, and second places, in order
By "place" he means the letter in that location in the clue, and by "in order" he means to take the listed places from the clues in their weekly order.
Remembering to count spaces and punctuation, and not to count the first episode, you get:

letter I (as a sign in the background of the clue instructed) produced the word
